We begin our journey at the Antim Ivireanu Monastery, a symbol of quiet defiance. During the communist period, this sacred place was physically relocated—a massive feat of engineering—just to make room for Nicolae Ceaușescu’s aggressive urban redesign. The story of its survival reflects the regime’s obsession with control and image.

As we move through the city, we stop at the Palace of the Parliament, the second-largest administrative building in the world and a staggering symbol of totalitarian ambition. Built at the cost of entire neighborhoods, its construction reveals the destructive vanity of Ceaușescu’s vision.

Next, we stroll down Fountain Avenue (Bulevardul Unirii), modeled after the Champs-Élysées but wider and longer—designed to glorify the dictator’s power while masking the population’s suffering. You'll see how architecture became a tool of propaganda.

We continue to Victory Avenue and Old Town, once vibrant areas that were reshaped or erased under the regime. Your guide will point out hidden details—like relocated churches and blocked facades—that speak volumes about censorship and urban manipulation.

At Revolution Square, you’ll stand on the very spot where Ceaușescu gave his final public speech in December 1989. Just days later, he and his wife Elena were overthrown and executed in one of the most dramatic regime collapses in Eastern Europe.

Nearby, we visit the former Secret Police Headquarters, the building from which the feared Securitate coordinated surveillance and repression. Personal stories from this place will offer a chilling glimpse into the lives lived under watchful eyes.

Our last outdoor stop is University Square, the heart of the 1989 protests, where thousands of students and citizens demanded freedom, defying tanks and bullets with courage and conviction.

The tour concludes with a visit to the Museum of Communism in Bucharest, an interactive space that recreates life during the regime. Here, you’ll try a typical communist snack and a cup of “nechezol”, a coffee substitute made from barley and chicory—often the only available option during the severe shortages of the 1980s. Everything is served in vintage tableware from the era.
