The tour starts at the Plaza del Obradoiro, place of great importance for pilgrims from all over the world. We will talk about the foundation of Santiago in the Middle Ages, the discovery of the Apostle Santiago’s tomb and its subsequent evolution over the centuries. All this has made Santiago de Compostela one of the most important pilgrimage places for Catholicism worldwide.
From the starting point we will admire the wonderful Cathedral. The walk will advance through the best known squares of the city, the Plaza de la Inmaculada with the incredible Monastery of San Martiño Pinario, and which surround the Cathedral itself. The Plaza de Quintana, the Plaza de Fonseca or the Plaza de Platerías, where the famous Fuente de los Caballos is located and important place for the goldsmiths of the city during the Middle Ages.
We will go to the Alameda Park, there we will see the two most famous women in the city and we will cross through some of the most emblematic streets of the historic center such as Calle del Franco, a road full of bars and great restaurants.
We will also know the answer to some of the most significant questions: What is botafumeiro used for? o Who was the first pilgrim on the Camino? The visit to the University and the Mercado de Abastos will close our tour of this city where history and monuments are in each of its corners.
